I know of beehaw defederating from a lot of instances, that doesn’t make them isolated tho, there are still a lot of instances they’re federated with.

Servers are not isolated from each other, people participate in communities regardless of the server they have their account on, that’s how the federation works.
Tho if by “server” you actually mean “community” then yes, each community can have its own “culture” like different subs on reddit did.
I hate how lemmy users are like Redditors and downvote any information contrary to what they want to see
I was thinking the same. There’s one person being honest about why they use Twitter - in a thread asking about why it’s still used - and the only thing people can do here is downvoting him? It’s sad.
You’re right when you say this is for people who migrated from reddit, but someone creating an account only a few hours ago because they’re mad for being banned from reddit for something that has nothing to do with migration, can be really considered “migrating”?
I mean, “WTF reddit why you banned i didnt nothing”, does sound to you like someone being here because they want to quit reddit?
Yes and we’re here to see reddit go down. Not only we can’t do anything about your ban but many of us wouldn’t even care.
It did indeed, I knew nothing about the fediverse before the reddit protest began, didn’t even know lemmy existed, now I happily migrated here, like me many other people.
Why are you complaining here? We’re not reddit, take it to reddit admins.
They’re not telling (rightfully so) and hopefully won’t until all instances are fixed.
I think putting direct links to lemmy/kbin is what triggers bans the most, avoiding links should be fine enough.
At this point there’s nothing they can do to regain my trust, and considering they want to go public, they can only get worse.
Public trading is the cancer of our financial world, nothing good ever comes out of it.
Fantastic post! Thank you :)
STOP giving them traffic, that’s the only smart way to deal with it.
Do they hope to pick up all other 3rd party apps users? Not that it matters much to me since my reason for quitting reddit is the way they mistreated the entire userbase (I don’t use apps), but I’m curious nonetheless to see how this ends.
They’re already doing that, it’s why reddit went down the drain, not suddenly but progressively over the last years.
It can only get worse, I’m so happy the protest made aware of alternatives so I can be here instead.
Fantastic write-up! Thanks for sharing so hopefully other people can avoid the same problem.
Reddit wanting to become TikTok doesn’t make sense tho.
They said they don’t want AI training companies to get their data for free and there’s a reason why AI training is done on reddit, that’s because it’s not TikTok nor Facebook.
Apparently you can’t train AI on shitpost memes and videos, you need conversations, how is becoming tiktok compatible with wanting to sell their data for AI training?
Fantastic news!
Nor did any spam problem eventuate (yet?)
It would seems so, you can see how engagement is still growing regardless of number of accounts declining, that shows spam accounts didn’t actually start spamming yet IMO.
many of these accounts never actually materialised as they never went through email verification
But in that case they shouldn’t be counted in the account number, do they?
Why did you delete the account before receiving the data?
Well, the attitude is bad but they’re not completely wrong in principle.
I mean, if you’re really dissatisfied with reddit you quit using it, as many of us have done already.
Either you’re actively participating in the protest with “malicious compliance” or you stop giving them traffic.
Posting there just to complain about it doesn’t make sense.
That’s only beehaw tho, it’s quite an unique community, it’s not representative of the “average” lemmy server.
