Do you have a good “getting started” resource for self-hosting that you would point people to?
Do you have a good “getting started” resource for self-hosting that you would point people to?
Well… That’s like alot of steps, lol. In UX design, we would call that a violation of the Three Click rule, and obfuscating the expression of user intent.
Like… Do you gain anything from these launchers? I guess Frosty you opt into because you use it to manage your mods. Maybe launching through that is how your mods get bootstrapped. Kay cool.
Epic games, you definitely need and want to use for other reasons-- Shopping for games and managing your library-- but is it really benefitting you to open that app so that you can open the app you actually want to use? Maybe you have a reason that you actually like that better, idk, but I’d rather just open the app that I want.
And then the EA app… What does it offer that makes it worth putting another step between you and your game? Login to the EA account you don’t need? DRM? Ads for other games? The premise of most launchers is that the company has some goals that you don’t share, and they’re willing to add friction to your experience to achieve those.
Some launchers aren’t so bad. I dunno what EA’s deal is. Speaking of Ubisoft Connect specifically:
Those things aren’t necessarily all bad per se, and you’d certainly tolerate them for some apps… But it’s a big imposition for the company to insist on, IMO, and part of the reason for the launcher hate.
I didn’t downvote btw, I think you’re entitled to your opinion and maybe you’re fine with the launchers you use… But personally, I just choose not to play Ubisoft games for that reason, even though there are games that I would like to have played.
Ubisoft Connect, no thanks.
Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, fam.
That second one is the real killer.
Well defined and constrained responsibility: No problem.
Open-ended obligation to people you don’t know: Bottomless pit of potential despair.
Lol I actually kind of like having a lawn to mow, but yeah it sucks to have to.
Is it in your lease that you need to mow the lawn? Here, it’s the landlord’s responsibility unless you specifically agree to it.
Which costs extra, of course
I know even less about Overwatch lol, but that sounds about right.
Can confirm other opinions:
The game and the show aren’t really related at all. AFAIK, if you’ve played the game, you just get to be like “Oh hey that’s one of the characters you can choose” once in awhile… But there’s no overlapping plot or anything.
Friday was amazing, tonight was a bust (but just looking at stars on their own was pretty cool, so no regrets)… Fingers crossed for tomorrow and Monday!
Yes lol I’ve heard of Gamergate. But I still don’t think “far right” when I hear “gamer.” It wouldn’t shock me to learn that they correlate to some degree, but whereas the other precursors sound per se characteristic of the far right to me, “gamer” seems like an odd fit.
Like lots of people from a broad range of backgrounds would describe themselves as gamers, and that’s generally uncontroversial. Not the same for any other precursor in that list.
Hence, surprised.
Good find, thanks.
“Gamer precursor” is a bit of a surprise. I know gaming communities can be toxic, but it seems like the odd one out in a list with “conspiracy, racist, violent, sexist, and offensive.”
Why are we downvoting this comment? It’s a perfectly reasonable thing to wonder about the study, and I had the same thought.
Not because I can’t possibly imagine what could constitute “far right vocabulary…” But just cause I’m interested in the study methodology.
Like yeah, any of us can often identify far-right language when we see it… But how did the researchers approach that systematically? Are there any surprises there, like phrases that I wouldn’t recognize? Did they include patterns like “randomly capitalizing words for emphasis?” That would be interesting to know.
Or maybe I misunderstood, and the people downvoting are just pro-paywall, idk.
I don’t understand the question.
Linux.
But I don’t understand the question.
Vote with your thumbs!
Oh, found it. Sony decided post-hoc that:
a) You’ll need a PSN account to play Helldivers through Steam, even though why would you need a PSN account?
b) If you’re in a region where you can’t create a PSN account, you just can’t purchase Helldivers anymore, or play it if you’ve already purchased it.
Cool yeah pretty scummy. I thought this meme format was usually used to make fun of people for petty power tripping, but in this case, it seems pretty clear that it’s an appropriate form of protest.
That sounds great, I’m just out of the loop. I will consult DuckDuckGo and come back.
“Completely new”
Okay, then don’t train it on anything at all and let’s see how it turns out.
