“Fucking pretend you know what you are doing.” Always seems to work. Feel how you feel l, and don’t shame yourself for fear.

Two cans of air fried garbanzo beans. I don’t consider it cooking because it takes all of 19 seconds to open the cans, drain, spray cooking spray and turn an air fryer on. Gives me what feels like a bag of potato chips at a much healthier nutrition on the cheap. Toss some tajin seasoning on there and away I go.
My favorite strategy is literally putting crap I need to remember in my way. Remember my daughter’s jacket for school? You belong in front of the door now. Need to remember making a meal? Gonna leave out a bunch of ingredients on the counter. Everybody is different, I just find that kind of stuff works for me too.
I use a self hosted version of Trello for work and a combination of hand written notes. Unless I make a Trello note for it that thing may as well not exist. Immediately leaves my mind after. I try to capture the lighting in a bottle by taking enough notes to mean something later. I undercut myself with short cryptic notes sometimes, but usually it is enough to spark my brain back to what I was thinking.
Self hosted version is focal board, for the tech enthusiast.
For what it is worth, it is useful to come to the conclusion that the brain is an awful place to store something you want to remember. It may not be a list, but I certainly remember better outside my head than inside. Developing tooling that works for you is important to coming to grips with your brain.
Well, one of my dogs chews at the butt so dang loud and hard that I swear they get a cardio workout as a result. This dog also has a cat like behavior of seemingly wanting both in and out from the patio. She will spend a grand total of 2 min outside and want back in only to want back out a few min later. She also has gotten sassier with age. Love her stupid stinking face. Totally not petter her right now or anything.
Had really good experience with this option. Namecheap seems quite reasonable. Also, self hosting on other’s domain can cause a lot of issues as you try creating enough paths for everything. I have found subdomain routing to work much better as a lot of applications get sad when their host url is something like blarg.com/gitea or something.
It’s not even about trust. It’s that I am confident I will have no clue who is a real life human being anymore soon. Autogenerated images, video, and text is practically in its infancy but already exists in the uncanny valley of being impossible to determine which is real and which is not. Imagine 5 years from now when perfectly lifelike high res video of practically anything you can imagine can be generated on the fly. Essentially the only thing I will have any certainty on is what I can witness in person. Or, if I have a circle of trust I can choose to believe content published by certain organizations or groups.
It may actually push us away from tech and back to the community, which could be good assuming we survive the transition.
Good luck watermarking plaintext and locally run models. There is no good option. If you want certainty that you are dealing with a human you lose privacy. If you want privacy you cannot know where the plain text came from unless you sign each file cryptographically. Then you only know it came from a certain source, but there is no guarantee how that source made the text. Welcome to the new world.
I get them whole and eat them whole. So dang cheap. Like $3 for a 5lb bag. I get made fun of endlessly by some, but I joke that if it were a bag of Doritos no one would bat an eye and that says a lot about the state of things. My wife joked that I have “car carrots” and just leave a big bag of carrots in the car if the weather permits.
I am never hungry for a snack if I eat 2lbs of raw carrots.
I love me some salty food so I feel the pain. I’ll echo the sentiment of not buying it in the first place. Will power is an exhaustible resource.
I find that it almost doesn’t matter what I snack on I just want to snack. I will literally buy a huge bag of carrots and just eat those. Or my other favorite is toss a couple of strained cans of garbanzo beans in an air fryer, spray a bit of cooking spray, toast those suckers for 25 min, and salt/season them for a protein heavy snack that actually has fiber. Cheap, easy, and gives me similar vibes to a potato chip in an incredibly more healthy way.
2ish years is the Goldilocks zone of job hoping. Less then that and you look more trouble than you are worth. More than that and you miss out on real pay raises. Though of course if you have it good then you don’t have to jump.
Ghostwriter and syncthing. Ghostwriter really has a good focus mode that really gets me in the right spot for writing. I use Markor if I am on Android and syncthing still works there as well.
I prefer to leave edge never clicked by using winget. It comes default on Win 11 (Most likely new install, not an advertisement for that dumpster fire). For windows 10 you can use the Microsoft Store to install AppInstaller which will get you winget. Winget is a MS product.
I mainly like doing this because Edge does a bunch of setup when clicked for the first time. This avoids all that.
winget install --id=Google.Chrome -e
Or you can ever do slightly prevent the backslide in marketshare for Firefox.
winget install --id=Mozilla.Firefox -e
Just run powershell or windows terminal and use those commands and you can leave edge where it belongs.
More info here. https://winstall.app/apps/Mozilla.Firefox https://phoenixnap.com/kb/install-winget
Ubuntu should be fine especially given GNOME clearly borrows some visual concepts from OSX. I prefer Linux Mint myself, but that uses Ubuntu as a base so I’m not exactly blazing a brave trail. Most games I have work. Unless some anti-cheat is involved that the dev does not support Linux with you will most likely be OK. Baulder Gate 3 works excellent and that has sucked up most of my time. Join the ranks. Pump up the valve hardware survey Linux numbers. Make the business people in control of the devs care about linux support somewhat. Free yourself form the whims of Microsoft.
Use anylist with my wife. It has a recipe import extension on Firefox and Chrome that works awesome. It is the only app I pay money for because it is literally the app I would build if I were not totally attention starved. It has every feature I can think of and more but is pretty dang easy to use. Strong recommendation.
It’s all fun and games till well intentioned laws get abused by a new administration. Be careful what you wish for. My personal take is that any organization that is even reasonably similar to a news site must conform to fairness in reporting standards much like broadcast TV once had. If you don’t, but an argument could be made that you present as a new site, you just slap a sizeable banner on every page that you are an entertainment site. Drawing distinctions on what is news and what is entertainment would theoretically work better than an outright ban of misleading content.
At the end of the day it won’t matter what is written unless the regulations have actual teeth. “Fines” mean so little given the billion dollar backers could care less and retractions are too little too late. I want these wannabe Nazi “News Infotainment” people to go to jail for their speech that causes harm to people and the nation. Destroying democracy should be painful for the agitators.
My incredible hatred and rage for not understanding things powers me on the cycle of trying and failing hundreds of times till I figure it out. Then I screw it all up somehow and the cycle begins again.
