  • I imagine the people who still run independent companies that fill vending machines (I’m not sure if this is still the model, or if capitalism ruined that as well) will gladly install the M&M branded machines, when the rental fees go down drastically.

At least that’s how I see this playing out: Machine is provided to small business for cheap (possibly free), majorly increasing their ever-thinning profit margins. I’m sure the cost of snacks increasing every month is a nightmare for people who stock vending machines, and their profit margins must be thinner than they’ve ever been.

They’ll install the new machines, and maybe even make marginally more total profits… of course the real money is in the data being collected by the machine.

Shit, I bet they could start having vending machines where they just give you shit for free, all you have to do is give a thumbprint, or strand of hair, or fingernail, or cornea scan, etc… And people would use them. Hey, free shit right?

  • I think that’s your point. As in that’s the reason you’d take the ticket. And so would I probably. That’s exactly why they always do this around this time of year. Who wouldn’

Do you think they bus them away for the summer, and then bring them back to continue being homeless during warmer months? The goal is to get them to leave and never come back so nobody has to look at them anymore, and the pretense (which isn’t necessarily fake or complete made up) is that they’ll go somewhere warmer. Just shuffle them around to a different city, with probably less infrastructure and fewer safety nets.

Our government (not just talking NYC here, they do it better than most places in the US and it’s still shit) should be building housing for these people, instead of paying for them to leave.

I’m not sure that NYC is equipped…

The reality is, our entire country is more than equipped to handle this problem. We just choose not to.

  • Now hold on… Your claim here is that, if there were a one-state solution, that the Palestinians would somehow, magically, gain the upper hand on Israelis and set up pogroms (just going to set aside the irony here that the Israeli government is literally doing this to Palestine at this moment, and have been since long before this current outbreak)? The people who’ve been living in an open-air prison, or who’s property has been illegally stolen from right under their feet?

Where will all of this power have suddenly come from? They’ve been oppressed for generations. Israel has the backing of the most powerful military on the planet. Please, explain to me how the Palestinian people are going to suddenly pull an “Uno Reverse” card and gain all of the power in the region.

Give me a fucking break. And before you pivot and make this about the idea of a 1-state solution, while ignoring the rest of my comment. Just don’t. I have made zero claims as to my views on 1-state vs. 2-state solutions.
