My younger brother threw our Castlevania 64 cartridge into the river after I explained the necronomicon in the opening to him. Sweet child was just doing what he thought Jesus wanted from him. Lol
People are allowed to be critical of entertainment, and that includes comedy. In fact, sometimes you should be critical of things that people brand as “comedy”.
Sometimes things are problematic, regardless of their intent as “comedy”. And that’s normal. Comedy often ages very poorly. Remember all those movies that used rape & sexual assault as a punchline? Should we not be critical of blackface because it’s supposed to be “comedy”? Should we turn off our brains because “it’s just a joke”?
You’re allowed to laugh. Others are allowed to be more critical. Both are valid.
Relax.
Didn’t they take away crowd-sourced subtitles before?
Australia & New Zealand deny immigrants with an autism diagnosis!
I’d sew stuffed animals donate them to hospitals. I would also put on scavenger hunts for kids to find them around town! It’d be a good activity for kids to do with their siblings, parents, friends, etc.
I would open up a bearded dragon rescue again and possibly turn it into a sanctuary!
I’d learn how to use saws and do woodworking to create fun & interesting furniture! I can already do upholstery, but I’d love to make something from the ground up.
I’d apply for a wildlife rehab permit & help animals.
I’d learn how to code games and put my rusty Blender skills to work!
Gosh… there’s honestly so much I’d like to do… but I am poor, uninsured, and living paycheck-to-paycheck, so I don’t have the time or money to do any of it.
It’s nice to think about, though.
Yes. Absolutely. It’s such a shit thing, isn’t it?
Like in the olden days, if women acted just a tad too “off”, they were dismissed with a diagnosis of “female hysteria”. Turns out, doctors are still doing that to this day, just quieter.
It is one of the most bittersweet things I’ve ever read.
Really resonates with me in a huge way. Gets me every time.
The author is Laura Gilpin.
I think about this often.
I do not belong here.
Damn, you’re right. We wouldn’t want to humanize people with autism, now would we?
Women with autism are often much better at masking because social expectation from a young age force them to hide it. Autism diagnosis in women are also often dismissed, as autism has typically been seen as a “boy affliction”.
I think women are specifically being addressed because many are forced to mask the hardest since they were very very young. Like “hey, women, I see you. You don’t need to mask. We see you.”
It’s almost like… a permission. And that can be nice sometimes.
I remember being in the Stardew Vallet subr×ddit with someone talking about their guilt pirating the game because they really really enjoyed playing it but just couldn’t afford the 15$ price at the moment.
Several players graciously offered to purchase & gift them the game on Steam.
It was so lovely.
People will happily pay for good, enjoyable games they feel are worth the price.
I’d like to play that new Princess Peach game one day, but there’s no fucking way I’m paying 60$ to play a game I’m not even sure I’ll like.
For the record, I support allowing felons to vote.
But maybe not this one.
If felons can’t vote, they also shouldn’t be able to run for office.
Fuck 'em up!
Grackles are so silly! I often see them throwing things around in my shade garden while they forage.
Love how their eyes contrast with the color of their feathers, too!
You’d be surprised at how many people state false “facts” about NK, as if its people are emerging Neanderthals.
Unfortunately, you often have to assume that statements like these are serious. Because many are.
No worries!
North Koreans know what cell phones are. Many have their own specifically made for North Korea with their own private network & walled internet access, iirc.
There are some issues & experiences that women go through that men will just simply never “get”, and that’s fine. But invalidating the answers & experiences from women is why I believe there are no longer many women participating in conversations on Lemmy anymore.
I mean… looking at all this, why would they want to?
Is it controversial to say that I’d rather converse with a bear? Or do you suppose folks get upset about it?
Maybe, just maybe, folks who do not understand it should listen to what women have to say about it? But many are thinking about it completely removed from the contextual experiences of women. It’s… awful.
