You used the word “just”.
I guess my angle is if we agree the market isn’t just, then maybe you just pay everyone equally? Don’t all people need to eat and have a place to sleep?

So if it makes sense to charge people in India 1/4 the people in the US why can’t we pretend we are in India? People travel to other continents for healthcare.
Just?

I think it’s worse than that. The work is about the same. The skill and pay for that work? Lower.
Why pay 10 experienced journalists when you can pay 10 expendable fact checkers who just need to run some facts/numbers by a Wikipedia page?

Do many many people actually choose to litter? I mean I’m sure some people do. Drivers for example.
I feel like a lot of litter also blows out of trash cans or out of reach, or is maybe forgotten with near innocence.
The real people holding society up are those who go out and clean up.
People raise good points about the federal system.
Let’s say a governor did hire a hitman and murder is a state crime. All of a sudden we now have a conspiracy and ideally the federal government would take jurisdiction of what is now a federal crime. At that point, the governor would need to bribe or threaten the president to pardon these federal crimes…
Similarly, if it was the president orchestrating some sort of conspiracy, he might be able to delay or pardon federal offences, but as we are seeing with the 2016/2020 election crimes of Trump, a patchwork of state and federal cases are made all being handled (or delayed) via different powers.
Federalism is sort of good in that power is relatively diffuse. But it breaks down when 50% of courts and other officials just decide their friends can do as they will.
I guess what I mean is, if you have indication that frequently baristas are serving food without following hand washing protocol, maybe something bigger is going on that if OP has a smell sensitivity or not. The stores should be informed they are not operating correctly.
Pretty easy to do in excel. Or on a napkin.
I bought my Honda Civic about 9 years ago for, let’s just say 20k including interest on the loan. I could look more into it, but let’s say $500 a year on average for service and $1000 a year on insurance. Gas has been pretty constantly $3/gal and mileage at 30 miles per gallon so that’s ten cents a mile. Driven 110,000 miles so that’s $11,000 in gasoline.
So all and all ownership has been about 20k+4.5k+9k+11k or $45,000 divided by 110,000 miles.
That’s about 40 cents a mile. Woooo! I’m probably under estimating the service costs as they have really escalated recently. The IRS says it costs 55 cents a mile to service a car. So yeah. You shouldn’t think of any short trip as free. It probably costs 50 cents to drive every mile.
Food service requires hand washing!
Definitely the simplest answer and aligns so far with out observations.
