They prefer the term “little planets”.
Just looking for a free internet horizon to sail towards.
They prefer the term “little planets”.
Streaming is more difficult since you have to create a viewership from basically nothing, while sites like Twitch, Kick, and Youtube have a massive userbase for streaming content. You can join a peertube instance but there seems to be little content and few users. Owncast is ok, basically more like hosting your own Twitch channel, but again you would need to byo userbase. You can use mastodon/kbin/lemmy to build up a following. Not sure if anyone has made a stable income from these services though.
Couple resources for people to look-up:
https://directory.owncast.online/
https://instances.joinpeertube.org/instances
Except the code is open source, no matter how many corps invade the Fediverse, there will always be an option.
More instances will need to spin up. People aren’t used to having choice so it’ll confuse them at first. Same thing with Linux distributions, people aren’t used to having choice so they don’t know how to go about comparing what’s on offer. They’ll accept making choices at the food market, but are too confused when it comes to OS’s and social media, lol.
Nothing wrong with having accounts across instances. I use lemmy.ca as well as kbin, a few across mastodon, not a big deal with me to be honest.
I don’t think you understand the benefits of the Fediverse. With multiple sites you have alternatives to go to if the site goes to shit. Lemmy and kbin sites also appeal to different tastes, rather than having to endure one size fits all mentality. Being federated means you can subscribe to and access and post on other federated sites from kbin. No more monopoly abuse.
Didn’t work out for Robert Pickton, still got caught.
@spicy_biscuits Greetings and salutations!
Now the arduous but necessary task of making the Fediverse the place for those results instead.
Deleted my account with the message “Your contempt for your users disgusts me”. Oh well, account since 2012 permanently gone. Long live the Fediverse!
You can but you’ll need a permission note from your mom. Seriously it’s not a big deal, you can use both at the same time, nothing says you have to quit cold turkey. It would be more beneficial though i think to link discussions to the Fediverse rather than just to Reddit.
Instead of just tweeting, toot to the Fediverse as well. Try not to be annoying about it demanding people use the Fediverse, just do it the quiet sneaky way. Get people clicking Fediverse links with topics they would be interested in, and with their own volition they will learn about the Fediverse and come to look at it as a viable choice, hopefully.
I dunno, i like kbiner so long as it isn’t pronounced binner, more like carbiner. I’d rather be a rifleman, than a bin diver, lol. As for kbinauts, makes us sound spaced-out crazy, as in twirl your index finger in a circular motion around your temple type. I’m on the fence about it.
I don’t remember ever seeing an ad on Reddit and i’ve been on it since 2012, lol.
3 coffees bought, this guy ain’t sleeping for a while.
I agree i’m in no hurry to use Reddit. I’ll be satisfied if enough people stick around and keep the place interesting. In fact i would say sticking around the fediverse is the only answer to dystopic corporate domination. Those who return, enjoy your exploitation, lol.
I don’t think there was a failure, there’s like 10 million users more than there used to be in just a few months. The more these social media companies fuck over their users, we’ll keep seeing the waves come crashing in.
I love the format of kbin, with some TLC i can see it taking off. I like it better than Lemmy’s layout. As to people returning after 48 hours, doesn’t that depend on Reddit caving in? I don’t see that happening, so why would anyone return if Reddit’s terms are egregious? They going to cough up the money to Reddit to use their API? People just going to cave in and use their shit app, enduring the ads and personal data farming? This should be interesting.
Why are people so horny for federating with fb/meta? If you want to see their shit just join them.
