In theory I agree with the sentiment, but then I imagine the same people who’re supposed to be keeping oil pipelines from rupturing put in charge of nuclear materials.

Certainly not the majority, but being “mainstream” doesn’t require a majority.

The problem is where the mainstream lies. In Islam, the mainstream is fundamentalism. Of course, fundamentalism is a problem for Christianity and every other religion too, but right now that is not the mainstream of those sects. And that is why Islam gets criticized more heavily than other religions.

Fundamentalism is cancerous wherever it lives.

If you like that reality garbage, I won’t yuck your yum, but I enjoyed not having to see any of it. I miss being able to forget that shit like Obese Hoarder Wars or Little Person with 13 Kids exists.

Having to configure settings all over again on every single device pissed me off, especially since the new app didn’t even have subtitles customization of any kind. As someone who uses subtitles for almost all viewing, nothing turns me off of a streaming service faster than being stuck with shitty black bars and gigantic blocky text by default and being unable to change it.

And for fuck’s sake, nobody likes video previews with sound, and you can take your credit-skipping autoplay and shove it up your corporate ass.

I sign into “max” now and get bombarded on the home screen with basic cable reality show trash, and every time that happens it just makes me want to use it less. The only thing keeping me coming back is the occasional Soderbergh project and an as-of-yet still decent catalogue of movies, though even that has dropped off noticeably.

I would drop my subscription if it wasn’t bundled into my phone plan.

For me it’s because of Cinemax - ie Skinemax - which used to be associated with the softcore porn they’d play late at night.

It always mystified me that HBO Max was even able to use that name since it was so evocative of another premium cable network.

Oh heck, that’s right. I’m slipping. Must be time for another rewatch of TWoK.

Would love this for the Android app as well

Just grabbed it and it’s working great so far. I’m not really clear on the pros/cons of using a native app vs a web app, but so far the experience is pretty much identical.

Edit: I’ll also add that if there’s ever a “premium” version that’s just the same app only paid so people can support it with their dollars, I will be happy to use my Google Play points on that.

I was a little surprised by the Carol Marcus name drop in this, and even moreso by the mention that she’s pregnant. Maybe I remembered it wrong, but I thought that Kirk was in the dark about David’s existence until the events of WoK. So maybe Carol later lies to him about the pregnancy or his parentage.

It’s a security blanket, and if someone is clinging to it that gives you a good idea of their emotional age.

Specifically, they reject the whole concept of modernity, along with everything it brings.

It’s also important to point out that “not guilty” is only a legal distinction.

Acquittal doesn’t mean proved innocent. It only means not proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

The need to assume innocence until proven guilty is a legal one only.
