  • There’s ample evidence that living in small-scale tribal societies really is the best for our emotional and psychological health. There are entire books on the subject. The problem is that we can’t go back to that, nor would we want to. I would argue that we are still figuring out how to adapt to agriculture, it having been such a recent development in human history.

I don’t necessarily know what the best path forward looks like, but I do know that what we’ve built here in the US isn’t sustainable because it’s not working for too many people.

  • We’ve spent the vast majority of our existence as a species living in small pre-agricultural bands in which it was virtually impossible to accumulate real personal property or wealth. Consequently, a person’s status was determined not by how much they owned, but rather by their merit and relationships with others.

Wheat is a relatively recent development in human history, as is agriculture in general. It changed everything but for better or worse, agriculture is a trap, and once you start transitioning to it, you can never go back.

  • This is a win for UAW though. They are trying to unionize Tesla’s workers and this behavior gives them an edge on the already labor-friendly NLRB by showing that Elon is actively anti-union.

If anyone thinks for a moment that union organizers don’t actively plan this kind of thing out, I can assure that they do. It’s part of their job description. My union is a lot smaller than UAW and our organizers get up to all kinds of subterfuge and shenanigans, so I can only imagine what the UAW people are doing.

Right, no doubt, but still totally irrelevant to the fact that if you’re of a certain age, Hulk Hogan is way more famous than the Tiger King guy and Dog The Bounty Hunter.

I’m not here to defend his historical significance; that’s something you brought in and has nothing to do with my position.

  • That’s nowhere near as true as it once was. Most of your big well-supoorted distros run flawlessly on most big brand machines.

Where you’ll run into problems is in using more obscure distros that require a lot of tweaking and customization, but something like Ubuntu should run beautifully out of the box and if it does have a problem it will be very well-known and heavily documented with easy to follow step by step instructions on fixing it. Linux just isn’t the pain in the ass it used to be. Or at least it doesn’t have to be.
