Only advantage I can think of is the faster soc and more ram on the more expensive models.
Fairphone 5 uses the Qualcomm QCM6490 (equivalent spec to a snapdragon 778g, which is in the nothing phone 1) and has 8gb of ram. Nothing Phone 2 has snapdragon 8+ gen 1 and 12gb of ram on the $699 model, 8gb of ram on the base model that costs $599. Fairphone 5 also has a micro SD card slot coupled with the 256gb of storage, while the nothing phone 2 doesn’t have any microsd card slot and starts with 128gb of storage on the base model.
The fairphone 5 is more expensive, but you’re paying for the ability to actually repair it and 8 years of support.
I already have a nothing phone 2 and I’m outside the return period, but if I didn’t and had the choice between the two today, ngl I’d pay the extra for the more sustainable fairphone 5. Yes it costs more, but it’d pay off in the long-run with repairability and long-term support.
We are long past the days of proprietary charging ports on phones, my guy. You can use any charger that came with any phone you’ve owned in the past like 10 years.
Cut the price down to $249 and maybe I’ll bite.
So far yea. Battery life has been great, phone is very snappy, display is beautiful, sounds great. The only things I don’t like are that visual voicemail doesn’t seem to work (issue with T-Mobile moreso than the phone), wish the IP rating was at least 67 (it’s 54 I believe), and I wish either the fingerprint area was alittle higher on the display or just replaced with a rear fingerprint scanner. Other than that tho it’s been great.
On the software side, I’m surprised to see nothing is so proactive. When I first got the phone I posted on their discord about how we should have the ability to hide apps in the app drawer and group them into folders, and they’ve already announced hiding apps is coming in a later update. No update on folders tho. It’s very clean, and there are some nice features like native app locking and cloning apps.
I bought the phone 2 to test drive it for 30 days, but was leaning on returning it and waiting for the pixel 8. I’ve been slowly leaning towards keeping this tho. The overall experience is just so stable and smooth.

You shouldn’t be using your phone while it’s charging. It’s bad for battery health.
Same. Google’s design has taken a step backwards since the pixel 5. Worse battery life, less ergonomic due to fingerprint sensor being in the screen vs the back, and their custom socs have very poor efficiency.
Unfortunately most phones are doing the in screen fingerprint thing now since it’s the cool thing to do.
Yes as a long time PC gamer, I don’t understand why people act as if steam and valve are gods. Like ok cool it has the most games and whatever, but they’ve been going downhill. There’s so many random asset flips and porn games now, and their sales have been shit for years now. I remember games going on sale for 90% off during seasonal sales, and all the % off coupons they’d just randomly give out. That never happens now.
